HI, I am going to try and use this as a sort of a diary of what we are doing.
We got on the flight at midnight in Perth. The plane was packed and the seats even closer together than AirNZ!
Even my kness were touching the seat infront, so you can imagine poor Johan's. He did have an isle seat but still.
The flight was ok, we were so tired from walking around Perth for hours and hours for the previous 2 days.
We both managed to sleep on and off through out the night. We had those neck pillow things which are great.
At 5am African time (11.20hr flight) we started our descent. Africa is HUGE!
It was cool looking out the window as we  started coming accross the land and down towards landing. Landing was a bit shocking,
crunch and you are down, Johan told me afterwards thats its difficult to land nicely because of the altitude.
There was no such thing as customs, we just walked through the miles of corridors, collected our bags and walked straight out
the door! There were a group of security there but they were all black and all busy talking to each other. Too early to work?
We got our rental car (there were acres or rentals cars in this huge area) and headed out into the blue hazy African day.
Heaps of traffic on the road even though it was still only 6.30am. Johan got us out of Johanesburg and heading east.
It amazed both of us how many black people there are everywhere, specially in the town (that used to have lots more whites when J was there last)
Within a few minutes driving I saw my first shanty town. We drove for hours, the landscape is just huge.Lots ofparts could be Auzzie or NZ, but the
hugeness of it is breathtaking. We stopped in a few little towns along the way, always very concious of locking the car, holding tight to my handbag.
We stopped iin Lydenburg where Johan and family had last lived. Got photos of their old house for Lei and then went to Spurs.
Spurs is a chain of like steak houses. Johan has raved about them since the day I met him ;). Its cheap! Everything here is cheap! But that was really cheap!
For $20nz we had a huge bacon, chicken avo salad, a beef burger meal, a coke and a beer. We were stuffed, I couldnt eat all my salad and it was our first meal since
the night before. After leaving there we started heading towards the most spectacular lightening storm. We went up through this huge mountain pass while the lightening
kept up this amazing (and scarey) show. The lightening comes straight down in great streaks. We got out at one little town that looked safe enough, to buy some
snacks for dinner, and just as we started walking through all the blacks to the shop a huge crack of thunder and lightening hit!
I was great entertainment for everyone - I leapt!
We got to our accomodation Kruger Adventure Park late afternoon. The thunder and lightening were still cracking away.
This place is lovely, you come through a security gate where the black boy takes your details before letting you through.
The rooms have the most amazing furniture and decor. By 6 pm neither of us could stay awake and we both crashed till 3 am this morning.
