Johan opened his gift from Lei and Jake and his card from Katie(our German daughter from last year) while sitting in bed having his morning cuppa. Then we all ( Johan, me, Reubs, his mate Matt, and Fernnada our temp host daughter from Brazil) got ready to go to Whangaruru camping ground to see Lelanie, Jake and his family.

Before we left I had to sneak out to get Johan's birthday present, I sent the boys out to get it the day before but the shop was shut!
For the past few days I had been suggesting the lounge need a change and saying I wanted to shift the furniture around so we did that the day before (in preperation - not that he knew that)so now his chair fits in nicely and in prime spot!
It was a bit of a windy road but worth it - specially when Jake had caught me a crayfish! He knows I love them and is always trying and not succeding to get one for me. But this time he had one cooked and on ice waiting for me, so we sat on the beach eating fresh cray :) Jake and the boys were already out on the boat when we arrived so we sat on the beach with Lei and Louise(Jake's mum) and went and saw their camp site, which was still very muddy from the New Year's eve rain. After a few walks and a text from Fie our host daughter from Belgium, it was time to say our goodbyes and head off. Don't know when we will see each other again. We will be saving hard to go to South Africa at the end of the year so not likely to be travelling down to Upper Hutt this year. Lelanie and Jake would love to come to SA with us, especially for Lelanie as she has all these childhood memories that she kept asking her dad about, that would be so fun for her to relive with her dad in the actual places, so we have decided we better by a few lotto tickets and if we get lucky they can come too. Otherwise they are hoping to get over there in a few years time. We wound our way back to Russell which was buzzing with people, buskers, yachts and launches, just a real neat atmosphere. Matt and Fernanda had never been there so we had a quick tikki tour before home. Johan and I jumped in the pool then had a relaxing dinner, a phone call from his parents and his sister and then an early night. Not a bad day at all. This morning the weather is stunning :) Tomorrow Johan has suggested we go to Ocean Beach for the day. Matt is on the 7.30am flight out, Fernanda will have a friend over tonight and on Saturday she goes to her new homestay, so by Saturday afternoon it will be just the 3 of us again. Johan starts work on Monday... and then the year starts rolling along.
